There were many epic types of movies in the 80s from action to adventure, thrillers to teen comedies, there was something for everyone in the decade. However, one topic that hadn’t been touched, and was ultimately needed in 1987 was a movie about truck drivers and arm wrestling. Team 80’s and 90s will tackle their first Sylvester Stallone movie with a special guest, hoping to tackle all of the big questions like, Did Stallone kidnap that kid? Can you drink an entire can of oil? And is the arm wrestling tournament double elimination? These are just a few of the hard hitting topics, along with probably endless Stallone impressions that will come out on this episode. The 90s were a remarkable era for country music, marked by several factors that contributed to its lasting popularity and influence. From the diversity of sound starting to combine elements of rock and hip hop to crossover success by artists like Faith Hill, Garth Brooks and Shania Twain, country found itself popular not only with traditional fans but with a larger audience that did not typically listen to country music prior. This week, Rob and Dave again head back to the country charts in the 90s to list another top 10 songs that they loved listening to and two stepping with. As usual, they’ll probably agree and disagree on the styles and choices, but all in good fun. This movie achieved a balance of action, comedy, and memorable characters, with Eddie Murphy’s performance at the forefront, making it a cool and enduring classic in the action-comedy genre. This week, Rob, Kurt and Dave will examine why a cop would want to leave the beautiful streets of Detroit to have to slum it in the palm trees and sunshine of Beverly Hills. We’ll examine the mix of action and comedy, Eddie Murphy’s charisma and a kick ass soundtrack that made this movie one of the best of the 80s. This week Rob and Dave will check out the top 100 songs for this week during each year of the 80s and select their favorite songs that put together an elite 80s playlist of the most popular songs on the radio. Many people saw the arrival of Nirvana and the Seattle “Grunge” sound as the end of hair bands, thrash metal and other 80’s sounding rock and ushered in a new moodier style of music just in time for the new decade. From the light blue and pink neon, pregnant women in a smoky bar way too late at night, and listening to poems that no one likes, we’re grabbing some liquor bottles and tossing them around to mix up our review of the 1988 Tom Cruise classic, Cocktail.
